VETR for 8(a) 8(a) Business Development Program

The 8(a) program is the SBA's nine-year business development program for small disadvantaged businesses. Participants get exclusive set-aside access to certain contracts plus sole-source authority up to $4.5M (services) / $7M (manufacturing) — making 8(a) the single highest-leverage federal preference for eligible firms.

Eligibility

5% federal-wide SDB goal; 8(a) sole-source up to $4.5M/$7M depending on NAICS

  • At least 51% owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals
  • Personal net worth under $850K (initial) / $1.75M (continuing)
  • Average AGI under $400K (initial) / $400K (continuing)
  • Demonstrated potential for success; in business at least 2 years (waivable)
  • Once admitted, participant for up to 9 years
